Summit Background

2006 National Summit, Canberra

The YEA National Summit is an initiative borne from Engineers Australia’s campaign 2005: Year of the Young Engineer. The purpose of the event is to provide young engineers with a unique professional development opportunity which will enable them to grow their industry knowledge, and expand their professional network at a national level.

This biennial event is an opportunity not to be missed, with the first two national summits exceeding expectations and receiving strong support from both young engineers and senior members of the engineering community.

Conference Convenors

Engineers Australia

Engineers Australia is the national forum for the advancement of engineering and the professional development of our members. The organisation has over 80,000 members across all engineering disciplines.

Our role also includes activities that cultivate lifelong learning by our members, champion professional and ethical conduct, celebrate excellence in engineering outcomes and take the lead in advocacy for the profession.

Engineers Australia relies on the combined efforts of our network of active members - who volunteer their expertise, enthusiasm, and time - and our dedicated staff who support them and give effect to the many initiatives necessary for us to sustain our relevance into the future.

Young Engineers Australia

Young Engineers Australia (YEA) exists to represent, support and provide a voice for the young engineering team. Through a culture of innovation, integrity, and the pursuit of excellence, YEA facilitates the professional and personal development of its membership.

YEA is currently the single largest sub group within Engineers Australia representing more than 50% of the membership with over 40,000 young engineers. A young engineer is considered to be any member of Engineers Australia that is currently completing or has completed a tertiary (university or TAFE) engineering qualification, and is between the ages of 18 and 35.

The National Committee of Young Engineers Australia has now been established for over 20 years, with a local committee in each of Engineers Australia's 9 divisions.
